IN THIS LESSON
Focus: Self-awareness & identity building
Lesson Objective:
Students will begin their art therapy journey by exploring what makes them unique. They’ll learn how creativity and imagination can help express emotions and personal strengths. This week introduces the concept of the “inner hero” — the part of each student that is brave, kind, and resilient.
Learning Goals:
Understand what makes each student special and unique
Learn to express emotions through art and storytelling
Build self-awareness and self-esteem through creative play
Identify personal strengths and positive qualities
Activity: Create Your Superhero Identity
Students will design their own superhero persona — a character that represents their best qualities.
They will:
Choose a superhero name
Draw their superhero costume
Write a short paragraph describing their powers and what makes them special
Share one thing their hero stands for (e.g., kindness, honesty, courage)
Encourage students to think about what makes them feel strong or happy. Remind them that every hero is different, and that’s what makes their stories powerful.
Reflection: Discovering My Strengths
What makes me feel strong or brave?
What is one thing I’m really good at?
How can I help others using my “superpower”?
How does my superhero represent the best parts of me?
Therapeutic Focus:
This lesson focuses on self-discovery, identity, and empowerment.
By creating their own superhero, students begin to recognize their inner strengths and emotional resilience. The activity encourages positive self-expression, builds confidence, and lays the foundation for using art as a safe space for emotional exploration and growth.
