IN THIS LESSON
Focus: Emotional intelligence through art.
Lesson Objective:
Students will learn to identify, understand, and express different emotions through art. They’ll explore how feelings can influence their actions and how even superheroes have to manage emotions to stay strong and balanced.
Learning Goals:
Recognize and name basic emotions (happy, sad, angry, scared, excited)
Understand that all emotions are valid and part of being human
Learn to express emotions safely through art and storytelling
Develop empathy by exploring how others might feel in different situations
Activity: Emotions Through Color and Expression
Students will use color and facial expressions to explore emotions.
They will:
Draw their superhero showing three different emotions (happy, sad, and angry)
Use colors to represent each emotion (e.g., blue for calm, red for anger, yellow for joy)
Write or discuss what might make their hero feel that way
Identify one healthy way to handle each emotion (e.g., deep breaths, talking to someone, drawing)
Encourage students to see emotions as their “superpowers” — tools that help them understand themselves and others better.
Reflection: My Feelings Matter
How do I know when I’m feeling happy or sad?
What can I do when I feel angry or frustrated?
How do colors remind me of my emotions?
What emotion do I want to feel more often?
Therapeutic Focus:
This week emphasizes emotional awareness and regulation.
By connecting feelings to visual elements like color and art, students can better understand their emotional world. This lesson encourages healthy emotional expression, helps reduce frustration, and builds empathy toward themselves and others.
