IN THIS LESSON
Focus: Visual sequencing & communication
Students turn story concepts into simple comic panels. They’ll learn visual sequencing, layout, and how to express motion, dialogue, and emotion through art.
Lesson Objective:
Students will use their creativity to design the setting and world where their superhero stories take place. They’ll explore how environment, color, and imagination combine to create believable worlds where their characters can thrive.
Learning Goals:
Understand the importance of setting in storytelling
Create and describe a unique world for their superhero
Strengthen imagination and visual-thinking skills
Activity: “Design Your Superhero World”
Students draw a 2-page spread or large single page showing where their hero lives, works, and saves the day.
Encourage them to think about:
What does this world look like?
What colors fill the sky?
What kinds of buildings or nature exist there?
Are there any hidden secret bases, vehicles, or cool gadgets?
Reflection:
What makes your world special?
How does your hero fit into this world?
If you lived there, what would you do to make it better?
Therapeutic Purpose:
This week helps students strengthen world-building and visualization skills — connecting imagination with emotional safety. Building a world gives children control over their environment, which can be empowering for kids on the spectrum.
